Over 20 people killed in fresh Darfur tribal clashes

June 16, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Over 20 people were killed during clashes between two rival tribes in southwest of the town of Zalingei in West Darfur.

The regular conflicts between the two Arab nomads tribes occur in the restive and arid province over the pasture and water sources which are almost non-existent during the summer.

Sudan Army, Rebel Groups Clash in Western Darfur, UN Says

May 31 (Bloomberg) — The Sudanese army clashed today with two rebel groups in the western region of Darfur, the United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission said.

May 29, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – Humanitarian situation in Darfur remains serious, said a UN senior official during a visit to western Sudan on Saturday urging local authorities to facilitate the activities of aid groups.

American woman among 3 aid workers kidnapped in Darfur

(CNN) — An American citizen is among three aid workers kidnapped in the war-torn western Sudanese region of Darfur, the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum said Wednesday.

The 36-year-old Californian woman was with two Sudanese colleagues when their two-vehicle convoy was stopped by a group of armed men Tuesday, said Samaritan’s Purse — the organization for which they work.
