Sudan’s Dictator and AU Chairman Reject Foreign Intervention in Darfur

During a meeting yesterday Wednesday in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, Dictator al-Bashir and AU Chairman Konare announced their rejection of any foreign intervention in this African affair, stressing that the initiative to solve this problem should be African and by African hands.
The Sudanese Dicatorship Government News Agency, (SUNA) quoted Foreign Minister Dr. Lam Akol as saying that the meeting discussed issues in connection with the relationship with the African force in Darfur, and it was agreed to keep the initiative an African one, until the problem is solved as soon as possible.
SUNA quoted Konare as saying that the meeting underlined the importance that the initiative on all African issues, especially Darfur, should remain in the hands of the African Union, because this responsibility is an African one and ought to remain so.
